What can it mean for today's girls and boys to encounter History-or rather, Historiography-in Primary School? It can be the beginning of a journey, starting from the here and now, to walk in small steps through time and space, to listen to the sources, to tell, one after the other, as in a count, the questions that the traces of the past pose to us, and to discover that the path taken will be, as for Ulysses, a "return home": time and place of encounters with our humanity, a traveling companion. In the suitcase three key-words, like clothes to wear, skills to acquire and use: experience, research, discovery and plenty of space to gather the tools of the historian's work.
